Background
Nalane was established in 1998 by Fezekile Futhwa. It was initially known as
The Xhosa Virtual Resource Network, and later went through a number of changes that prompted changing its name along. The different names
used so far are:
- Afrikan Virtual Resource Network
- The Sotho Virtual Resource Network
- Afrikan Virtual Resource
Fezekile is a Software Developer by profession, with a strong focus on web technology. He has vast experience spanning different industries
and has worked for companies such as:
- South Africa Exress Airways as an Ecommerce Manager
- Absa as a Java Developer
- TDS Directory Operations as a Web Analyst / Marketer
- Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies as a Database Programmer
- First National Bank as an Intranet Developer
- Safika Technologies as a Web Programmer
- South African Weather Service as a Senior Programmer
After being in the industry for some time, he noted the lack of resources dedicated or geared towards the African people and the continent as
such. The few sites that existed had content that was questionable at best and provided inconsistent views of Africa and its people. He therefore
decided to establish one that would address this concern and also ensure that anyone interested could contribute and participate in any way possible.
He started by establishing The Xhosa Virtual Resource Network,
which is now part of the Nalane domain.
Fezekile manages and runs Nalane during his spare time and is the sole member of the Nalane group.
"In the true spirit of nation building."
